Gallery Weekend Budapest 2020 – a weekend to celebrate contemporary art in Budapest
On March 6-7, now the sixth year in a row, 13 internationally acclaimed, progressive galleries present the Gallery Weekend Budapest (GWB). We, the Association of Hungarian Contemporary Art Galleries, organise this Festival not only for our returning visitors but also for all of those who haven’t had the courage yet to visit a contemporary art gallery. Besides our unique guided tours, we prepare a pop-up exhibition that could only be seen on March 7.
Leading Hungarian galleries (including acb, Erika Deák, Glassyard, Horizont, INDA, Kisterem, Knoll Budapest, Molnár Ani, MyMuseum, TOBE, Várfok, VILTIN, Vintage ) participate whit their special, just-for-the-occasion, free experiences to what seems to be one of the most interesting cultural events of the spring season. Joining the international Gallery Weekends in a quest for promoting contemporary art, we have been working together with Brussels, Antwerp, Chicago, Dublin, Havana, Kaunas, Mexico City, Paris, Barcelona, Warsaw, Berlin, Beijing and Tel-Aviv.

It is worth to pay attention to contemporary Hungarian and international artists and to the galleries working with them. Our successes reach beyond the nation’s borders. Apart from being regularly awarded internationally, Hungarian artists have been present at exhibitions and collections of such institutes as the Metropolitan Museum (NYC), Tate Modern (London), Centre Pompidou (Paris). Hungarian galleries have, as always had their part in these successes.
“Gallery Weekend Budapest is the perfect opportunity to meet the people and their work behind the art scene.
We would like to encourage you to join us this weekend. I’m certain that everyone can find their favourite artwork and will have the chance for a pleasant conversation with the artist.” said Ágnes Tallér, president of the Association of Hungarian Contemporary Art Galleries.
Throughout this weekend, you will have the opportunity to join us in our special vernissages as well as guided gallery and exhibition tours. This year’s speciality, a pop-up exhibition on paper-based artworks in Hungarian private collections is a work of Zsolt Petrányi, senior curator of the Hungarian National Gallery. You may hurry, because this exhibition could be seen only on March 7 at the Société Budapest.
